The end… is only just beginning.

Welcome to the story of Marcelo and Gabriel.

You are about to discover a short film about love, loss, and the marks left by intolerance. The story begins when Marcelo loses Gabriel, his partner, in a crime that changes everything. Grief leaves no room for silence, and the search for justice takes Marcelo beyond what is visible.

Throughout this journey, the boundaries between reality and the unknown begin to fade. Memories gain weight, presences emerge, and Marcelo is forced to confront feelings he tried to avoid and to cross into a territory where nothing is simple — not even the end.

Before the End is an independent Brazilian short film project in the fiction and suspense genres, with an approximate running time of 25 minutes. It is a Brazilian independent film, produced outside major studio systems, with full creative autonomy and a strong authorial vision.

The film was developed and produced in Joinville, a city in the state of Santa Catarina, in southern Brazil. Joinville is one of the most important cultural centers in the region and has a growing independent audiovisual scene. The project strengthens the local creative economy by employing artists and technicians who live and work in the city and surrounding areas.

As a Brazilian independent production, the film aims to expand public access to culture, encourage reflection, and promote original storytelling. Independent cinema in Brazil often focuses on socially relevant themes and artistic experimentation, prioritizing creative freedom over commercial formulas. This project follows that tradition by addressing themes such as love, loss, intolerance, and justice through a suspense-driven narrative.

The project is funded through Brazil’s National Aldir Blanc Policy, a federal public cultural funding program created to support artists and cultural productions across the country. The specific grant was awarded through a public call issued by the City Hall of Joinville, via its Department of Culture and Tourism, with funding provided by the Brazilian Ministry of Culture and the Federal Government of Brazil. In Brazil, public cultural funding plays a crucial role in enabling independent productions, especially outside major metropolitan centers like São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro.

The production brings together more than 30 audiovisual and artistic professionals, including cast and crew, most of whom are based in Joinville and the surrounding region. This reinforces not only the local cultural scene of Joinville, Santa Catarina, but also contributes to the broader landscape of Brazilian independent cinema.
